Apple‘s ailing chief executive Steve Jobs made a surprise appearance at a company event here on Wednesday to unveil a new version of the iPad that is thinner, lighter and features video cameras.
“We’ve been working on this product quite awhile and I just didn’t want to miss a great day,” said Jobs, who appeared gaunt but energetic.
The new iPad 2 features front- and rear-facing video cameras to enable video chat and is thinner than the previous version.

The Shangri-La Hotel in Tokyo said Monday it would not accept any new bookings “until further notice”, citing the city’s uncertain power supply following Japan’s massive earthquake and tsunami.
The hotel said it hoped to resume normal operations as soon as possible but the decision highlighted problems the tourism industry will be forced to confront as Japan recovers from the deadly March 11 twin disasters.
“Following the natural disasters in Japan on 11 March 2011 and the resulting logistical difficulties and hazards, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo will not be accepting any new guests until further notice,” the statement said.

Honda Aircraft has successfully completed the first flight of its FAA-conforming HondaJet advanced light business jet.
The HondaJet took off from the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Caroline on 20 December and flew for 51 minutes.

Korean Air is to introduce a new two-story A380 aircraft that features only Business Class seats on the second floor in May.
The 407-seat aircraft, built in partnership with Airbus, will be composed of 12 First Class, 94 Business Class and 301 Economy Class seats.

Canadian aviation company Bombardier has launched the Global 7000 and Global 8000 two new large business jets.
The Global 7000 and 8000, which will cost about $65 million, will beat the high-speed range of the $58.5 million Gulfstream G650.
Both new jets will have a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.90; the 7000 will have a range of 7,300 nmi (13,520 km) at Mach 0.85, while the 8000’s range will top out at 7,900 nmi (14,631 km) at Mach 0.85.
